Made With Paper
So…I guess I’m not quite sure what to say now. When I started posting pictures a little more than a year ago, it was just for fun. Honestly. I did some sketches, and Paper made it real easy to post them on Tumblr, so I figured ‘Why not’.
And then someone started following me. And then someone else, and then someone else. And eventually I think it settled somewhere around a couple dozen people following me. And I thought “Wow, that’s kinda cool.”
Then Sunday morning came. I woke up and checked my e-mail. And literally stared at my computer and said “What?!?”. And I stared another ten seconds, then said “What?!?” And then I stared another ten seconds, then said “Wait—what?!?” No joke—I did this six times.
But that’s apparently what happens when you wake up and see a subject line that says “You have 3,723 new followers”.
So I did what I thought was appropriate. I grabbed my iPad and drew the image above. The heart and the ‘u’ are hopefully self-explanatory; the arrow is meant to be read as “all”. And I mean it—you’ve all made me incredulously happy just by clicking a button. Me, the kid who was never popular in school, the introvert who always put my own happiness above achieving social status or popularity. Holy crap, something I did was popular.
I have my iPad set to show notifications from Tumblr as a banner at the top of the screen. As I was drawing this image, the notification banner disappeared only a couple of times. Otherwise, it was on constantly. This person is following you. This person is following you. This person liked your post. This person reblogged your post. It was like having a CNN-style news ticker on my screen. :-)
And by the time I’d finished drawing this, I checked my Tumblr dashboard and found the number had climbed to 4,800.
And just when I thought it couldn’t get any more amazing, an e-mail showed up in my inbox with the following subject line:
“Your blog is trending on Tumblr!”
So now I don’t even know how to process this.
Umm. Wow. Seriously.
Thank you to all of you (as I write this, now at 8,200!) for making my day incredible, and I hope each and every one of you continue doing your amazing things amazingly!
